Please put on your oxygen mask before assisting others…

If you’ve ever flown on a plane, you’re probably familiar with this phrase. At first glance, this might sound selfish, but the idea behind it is that you have to help yourself before you can help others. Another way to look at it is, you can’t help others if you’re unconscious.

With that in mind, I’d like to offer a perspective on the virus that you may not have heard. I’ll start by saying that I wear a mask in indoor spaces, I wash my hands as I should, I respect people’s space, and I try to consolidate my outings as best I can. All that being said, I don’t believe that those things are the BEST things I can do to keep myself safe; the best thing I can do is work on being the healthiest me I can be. This means standing and moving on the balls of my feet with correct posture, eating a low inflammatory diet, staying active, managing my stress, participating in activities that give me purpose and bring me joy, maintaining a healthy weight, and staying connected. These are the things that will keep my immune system strong so that I can help myself and those around me.

Herd immunity happens when a large percentage of the population becomes immune to a disease. This breaks the chain of transmission and slows or stops the spread. It also helps protect people who have low functioning immune systems or who may be compromised. However, herd immunity only works when most of the herd is healthy. It’s time that we face some difficult realities… over 70% of our herd is overweight, and up to 50% has a pre-existing condition that interferes with our immune system. Addressing these facts is the best thing we can do to protect ourselves from this and future viruses.

I realize there are people who care about their health but are still compromised. And since I respect them and their life as well as my own, I will continue to follow the recommendations for decreasing the spread of the virus while encouraging everyone else to do the same. However, If you really want to help yourself and your fellow human, the best thing you can do is to put on your own “oxygen mask” first by strengthening your immune system through Primalization.
